Castles in the Sky

Just a small section of Bethlehem Steel's towering old blast furnaces - Bethlehem PA. Founded in 1890 it grew to become America's second-largest steel producer and largest shipbuilder. In the 1980's demand for the plant's structural products began to diminish. Low-rise building construction (office parks and strip-malls) did not require the heavy structural grades produced at the Bethlehem plant. Just one of the many factors leading to the shutdown of these blast furnaces by the mid 1990s. Bethlehem Pennsylvania

This correctional theory, as practiced here at ESP, will become known as the Pennsylvania System.

Engine 1151 - running out of steam

With boiler core exposed this massive steam locomotive awaits restoration. Rescued from the scrapyard in 2009 this Norfolk and Western steam locomotive was built by the N&W Roanoke Shops in 1911. It is also known as one of the "Lost Engines of Roanoke". Roanoke, Virginia USA

Penitentiary

A view down one of the many creepy corridors of Eastern State Penitentiary. ESP offers great light, textures, and urban decay for photographers. Located in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia this prison was operational from 1829 until 1971. Today it's U.S. National Historic Landmark, open to the public as a museum for tours.

Fork Union Station

Abandoned train station near Fork Union, VA. Built in 1908 - closed in 1970, the Fork Union Depot served as a typical small railroad station of its day, prior to the end of World War II, four passenger trains plus freight daily. The railroad line which the Fork Union Depot served was built by the Virginia Air Line Railway, beginning in 1908, to connect the James River Division line of the C&O to the south of Cohasset with the Washington Division line of the C&O to the north.
